In frontline Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk oblast, where the sounds of war have become part of daily life, the team of the For Children of Nikopol Charitable Foundation continues to hold another line − the line of life for children battling cancer. Here, children and their families receive not only vital support but also the reassurance that someone is fighting for them.

Through participation in the organizational development grant competition implemented by ISAR Ednannia within the Civil Society Home ecosystem and funded by Norway and Sweden, the organization took an important step forward by developing a strategic plan for 2026-2028 and an operational plan for 2026.

These documents became the basis for systemic development, enabling the Foundation to operate confidently and sustainably even after the grant cycle ends. An organizational development grant is a tool that helps civic and charitable organizations strengthen their institutional capacity. Such grants allow organizations to assess their level of development, identify priorities, engage experts, and conduct training, facilitate strategic sessions, or external assessments. This approach helped the For Children of Nikopol team systematize their work and form a shared vision for the Foundation’s future growth.

During the strategic session, which brought together all staff and volunteers, the team found renewed motivation and shared goals. Among the planned areas of work are: support for veterans, assistance to children with disabilities, creative youth development, inclusion of people with limited mobility, and participation in community recovery. The Foundation also plans to establish a palliative care unit − a unique space of compassion for the most vulnerable. In addition, For Children of Nikopol continues to use ISAR Ednannia’s Civil Society Development Platform Marketplace to run tenders within other donor projects, showcase its readiness to work transparently and professionally, and expand its network of partners.

Despite its proximity to the frontline, the Foundation’s team is not merely holding on − it is growing. And it is doing so thanks to support that carries strategic meaning: to strengthen civil society so it can continue helping others even in the most difficult times and at the community level.

The grant from ISAR Ednannia, with financial support from Norway and Sweden, has become an investment in resilience, professionalism, and the future of this Dnipropetrovsk oblast community.

This project is made possible with the support of Civil Society Home as a part of the Strong Civil Society of Ukraine - a Driver towards Reforms and Democracy project, implemented by ISAR Ednannia, funded by Norway and Sweden.
