The Youth Potential Development in Western Ukraine Program, implemented by ISAR Ednannia in partnership with UNICEF and supported by the Governments of Japan and the Kingdom of Norway, as well as the Government of Germany through the KfW Development Bank, has completed its activities. Between 2023 and 2024, the Program covered seven oblasts of Ukraine—Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Chernivtsi, and Zakarpattia. It proved to be an effective tool for strengthening youth infrastructure, social entrepreneurship, non-formal education, and youth councils, fostering sustainable development and empowerment in these communities.
Results:
- Nearly 230,000 young Ukrainians were reached through the Program in cooperation with 11 implementation partners.
- 10 new youth centers opened, plus 2 existing centers renovated.
- Youth councils received financial support for targeted social programs in their communities. As a result, 15 youth councils engaged over 6,500 young people in various activities.
- We reviewed and strengthened 3 local youth programs by developing an innovative funding mechanism that enabled the transfer of donor funds to special community accounts. These funds were used to launch youth project competitions and renovate a youth center.
- We conducted 18 waves of the UPSHIFT program, during which 21,000 young people developed impactful projects in their communities. These projects ranged from creating opportunities for teenagers to tackling environmental challenges and raising awareness about conscious clothing consumption.
- Trained over 1,000 social and educational workers in youth work, with an additional 1,000 individuals becoming certified youth workers after completing a basic training program.
- Established 12 social enterprises within youth centers and launched 23 school-based social enterprises in Lviv oblast, fostering entrepreneurial skills and social impact among young people.
The Youth Potential Development in Western Ukraine Program has created new opportunities for young people and supported the growth of youth-led initiatives. We are grateful to all our partners, communities, and all participants for their dedication, collaboration, and contribution to strengthening the youth ecosystem in Ukraine.
