On July 31, Members of Parliament must correct a fatal mistake and return Ukraine to the path toward EU integration.
ISAR Ednannia, together with other civil society organizations, has issued a public statement calling to restore the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). This joint position is a response to a government decision that sparked public outrage and protests across the country.
July 22 became a ‘dark’ day for Ukrainian democracy. The authorities made an unacceptable move − they passed the Law that effectively destroys the independence of our key anti-corruption institutions.
What are we demanding?
Our joint statement outlines concrete steps that the government must take without delay:
The Verkhovna Rada (by July 31):
- Adopt draft Law No. 13533 or No. 13531, which restores the independence of NABU and SAPO.
- Adopt the draft Law without delay.
The President of Ukraine:
- Promptly sign the Law after its adoption.
- Appoint Constitutional Court of Ukraine judges who have passed the selection process
- Sign the Law on media protection.
Who stands with us?
The statement has already been signed by over 70 organizations from across Ukraine, including: ISAR Ednannia, the Reanimation Package of Reforms, Transparency International Ukraine, the Center for Civil Liberties, OPORA, the Anti-Corruption Headquarters, Detector Media, and many others.
This is the only way to tell Ukrainians: “We made a fatal mistake — and we are ready to fix it.”
