The war has amplified the role of cultural events. They have become spaces for mutual support, shared search for meaning, and healing, as well as places where communities remain together even when reality is constantly changing.

During the public discussion Events that Hold Us Together: How Culture Strengthens Communities During War at the XIV Civil Society Forum on December 5, we will speak with alumnae of House of Europe programmes and cultural event organizers from different oblasts of Ukraine about how culture helps communities not to fall apart, but to come together. We will try to find answers to questions such as how to sense the needs of communities, remain flexible when resources are limited, and build a culture that unites rather than divides.

Together with our partners, House of Europe, we will discuss the philosophy of supporting cultural initiatives in the oblasts and the experience of the alumni community, which is forming a network of changemakers across the country.

Speakers:

  •  Tetiana Rodionova, co-founder and director of the TRANSLATORIUM Literary and Translation Festival (Khmelnytskyi).
  • Alona Serhiienko, Chief Operations Officer of Tsukr media (Sumy).
  • Tetiana Stanieva, cultural and civic activist, director, and organizer of the OKO International Ethnographic Film Festival (Bolhrad).
  • Tetiana Holubova, head of the Nafta Theatre (Kharkiv).
  • Daria Kostiuk, communications specialist and House of Europe alumni community manager.

Anna Karnaukh, co-founder of the Lanka.pro formation will moderate the discussion.

Join the conversation to reflect together on the role of cultural events for communities today.
