ISAR Ednannia conducted the first wave of training on needs assessment of individuals/families in difficult life circumstances to strengthen the capacities of social service providers operating within the Small Grants Project.

The training program was developed and approved jointly with the Kyiv City Centre of Social Services. The training was delivered by Liubov Loriashvili, a specialist of the Centre, lawyer, psychologist, and author of her own training programs, who has many years of teaching experience in the field of social protection. The training aimed to help participants better understand the needs of children and families and to improve the planning of social support based on real-life situations.

The course combined theoretical and practical components and was based on an internationally recognized model for assessing the needs of a child and their family. Participants updated their knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework, reviewed the stages of the needs assessment process, and explored the specifics of information gathering and documentation in line with national standards for social service provision.

A particular emphasis was placed on practical exercises, where participants practiced needs assessment skills that took into account the child’s age, family situation, and social environment. They learned to formulate hypotheses and developed the ability to make well-founded decisions regarding further work with families in challenging life circumstances.

As a result of the training, the first 18 participants received state-recognized certificates and deepened their understanding of how needs assessment enables more accurate, effective, and child- and family-centered interventions.

Four additional training waves are planned, which will enable specialists from all 120 small grant recipients to complete this training.

Through such training programs, social service providers among the small grant recipients will be better equipped to plan and organize the delivery of social services effectively, in line with state standards and requirements.

We thank all partners and professionals for their fruitful cooperation and joint work.

The training was funded by the UK Government under the SPIRIT project, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, the Fund for Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities, and UNICEF Ukraine, with administration by ISAR Ednannia.
